North Sydney has been held by a member of the Liberal Party or its predecessor for all but six years of its existence (1). Between 1990 and 1996 it was held by Ted Mack.
Ted is the only person ever to have been elected and re-elected as an independent to local, state and federal government in Australia. He is widely considered to be the “father of the independents” in this country. Ted still lives in the electorate with his wife Wendy and is one of Stephen’s strongest supporters.
