Stephen is the son of a Commonwealth Bank manager and was educated in public high schools throughout rural NSW.
He has lived on the North Shore of Sydney for 35 years in the suburbs of Lavender Bay, Kirribilli, Greenwich and Roseville.
He is married with five children, all were educated at Chatswood High School.
He graduated from the University of Sydney with a science degree that included a double major in mathematics and a degree in Medicine with first class honours.
He undertook surgical training in teaching hospitals in Sydney and Auckland.
He has been an orthopaedic advisor to the Royal Australian Army Medical Corps.
He has been an orthopaedic surgeon at Royal North Shore Hospital for 30 years, specialising as a spinal injuries surgeon for the last 20 years.
Fourteen years ago he established a network of surgeons, based at the RNS Hospital, that has provided orthopaedic and trauma services to Dubbo Base Hospital. It provides an essential service to a significant portion of rural NSW. With his leadership, this service continues to flourish.
